Plastic and plywood frontages are to be stripped off shops in Academy Street as part of a 拢3m project to regenerate the city's centre.
The Townscape Heritage Project involves a number of organisations including Highland Council.
Backers include the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Environment Scotland.
