Highland councillors have approved plans for a 160-home development at Evanton in Easter Ross.
Building firm Makar Limited wants to build the mix of semi-detached, terraced and town house properties on the north east side of the village.
Councillor Kirsteen Currie asked if there would be adequate school provision and funding for it.
Council officials said discussions were ongoing with the developer on an offer of £250,000 towards school provision.
The project was considered at a meeting of Highland Council's north planning applications committee.
The committee was also notified of plans for 150 new homes on the west side of the village proposed by the Highland Housing Alliance.
More detailed plans for this project are expected to be submitted to the council at a later date.
