Planning officials in Aberdeen have recommended the rejection of plans for housing on the site of a former school.

More than 550 objections have been lodged to proposals for the Victoria Road Primary in Torry.

The developer, Barratt Homes, wants to create 56 units which would be a mixture of flats and three-bedroom houses.

But the plan has sparked a vigorous local campaign to save the traditional granite building.

Officials have agreed that the limited reuse of granite in walls and landscaped areas of the housing development would not adequately compensate for the loss of a locally-significant and large granite building.

They have said planning permission should be refused.

Their recommendations will go to members of Aberdeen City Council's planning development management committee.
