Man dies after car goes into water in Portsoy
A 23-year-old man has died after his 4x4 car went into water in Aberdeenshire.
The vehicle was discovered "fully submerged" in the Burn of Boyne near Portsoy following a major search.
The incident at Tillynaught, just off the A98, happened at about 16:00.
Fire, police, ambulance and coastguard teams were among those involved in the 90-minute operation. The Macduff lifeboat was also launched.
Police said the man was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he was pronounced dead.
Insp George Cordiner said: "We can sadly confirm that a man has died after his vehicle went into water in Tillynaught near Portsoy this afternoon.
"A significant search and rescue operation was launched in order to trace the man and I would like to thank members of the local community who assisted us and the emergency service personnel who attended.
"Our thoughts at this difficult time are with the family of the man who has died.
"There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course."
The area suffered heavy rainfall earlier, leading to problems with surface water on the roads.
