A teenager has been charged after the discovery of a human skull in Aberdeen.

Police Scotland said the 17-year-old man was arrested and charged on Wednesday, following a theft from a church - believed to be St Nicholas Church - in the city's Union Street.

It is understood the human remains were found in Heathryfold Place.

The Church of Scotland General Trustees said: "We understand that an individual has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged incident."

The trustees, who own part of the Kirk of St Nicholas building, said it could not comment further at this time.
