Snow-hit farm aid deadline looms

  • Published

Farmers hit by severe spring snowfalls have been urged to bid for a share of a 拢6m aid package before the deadline for applications passes on Friday.

South of Scotland MSP Jim Hume said the funding could provide vital help for many in the sector.

Thousands of sheep and lambs along with other livestock perished in the drifts caused by the March snow storms.

Areas including Dumfries and Galloway, Arran and Kintyre were particularly badly affected.

Mr Hume said: "Farmers across the Borders and the south west were hit hard by the very severe weather at a time when their livestock were especially vulnerable.

"This aid package will be a lifeline for many businesses and it's critical that those most in need apply before the Friday deadline."
