Ninewells Hospital closes third ward over vomiting bug
Bosses at Dundee's Ninewells Hospital have closed the third ward in three days following more cases of vomiting and diarrhoea.
NHS Tayside said it suspected the sickness was caused by norovirus - also known as the winter vomiting bug.
Two of the hospital's other wards have been closed this week after suspected norovirus outbreaks.
Friends and family of patients who have been unwell have been asked to stay away from the hospital.
The hospital said the ward had been closed as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the virus and that "infection control measures" were in place.
An NHS Tayside spokeswoman added: "Winter vomiting is extremely common at this time of year in the wider community.
"To help us minimise the spread of these bugs, we ask people who may be feeling unwell or experiencing vomiting and diarrhoea not to visit their friends and family members who are in hospital.
"We would urge them to stay away until at least 48 hours after they are free of all symptoms."
