Flood barrier for Newport river over high tides concern
A flood barrier has been installed in Newport over concerns about high tides.
The area around Caerleon Road in the St Julians part of the city was closed on Wednesday evening and people were advised to avoid the area.
The closure ran until 22:30 GMT and will be repeated from 07:45 until 10:00 on Thursday when the next high tide on the River Usk is expected.
Natural Resources Wales has a flood warning in place for the Usk estuary, north-east of the city.
There are more than across Wales, mostly around coastal areas with high tides expected.
Meanwhile, flooding has closed the rail line between Cardiff and Newport with services due to be delayed or cancelled for the rest of the night.
Elsewhere, rail services between Llandudno Junction in Conwy and Blaenau Ffestiniog in Gwynedd remain closed for a number of weeks following storm damage.
Replacement bus services are in place.
