Newport: Major road closed following serious crash

A cyclist has been taken to hospital in a critical condition following a serious crash with a car, the Welsh Ambulance Service said.

South Wales Police said the A48, between Cardiff Garden Centre and Cleppa Park, Newport, will be closed for some time.

Ambulance crews were sent at 17:19 GMT, where critical care was given before one patient was taken to hospital.

Police have advised motorists to avoid the area as heavy delays are expected.
