The unexplained deaths of mute swans and wild ducks in a park is being investigated.
A "concerning" number of carcasses have been found in recent months near ponds and lakes in Millennium Coastal Park near Llanelli, Carmarthenshire council said.
Mute swans are protected and ducks cannot be harmed within the park.
The birds appear to have been butchered, so not killed by foxes, the council added.
"The killing of wildlife on county council property is a grave crime which we will investigate fully with our partners," said Hazel Evans, the councillor responsible for parks in Carmarthenshire.
She said the council would be working with Natural Resources Wales and Dyfed-Powys Police.
" I would urge members of the public to report any suspicious activity to the police at once," she added.
