A teenager died after being struck by a car which failed to stop, an inquest has heard.
Kaylan Hippsley, 13, was walking along Brecon Road in Hirwaun, Rhondda Cynon Taf, on 29 Feb when he was hit by a Ford Fiesta.
He sustained multiple injuries and was taken to University Hospital of Wales in a critical condition where he died three days later.
His family described him as "a cheeky chappie with a twinkle in his eye".
Pontypridd coroner Patricia Morgan said she suspected Kaylan's death to have been "violent or unnatural".
She added that the inquest would be formally suspended "to enable any criminal investigation proceedings to be concluded".
She also sent her "deepest condolences" to his relatives at "such a tragic time".
