A man who crashed a car into a bakery died after rupturing an artery, an inquest has heard.

Ryan Bagnall died after the Vauxhall Corsa he was driving crashed into Gerrards Bakery in Wrexham during the early hours of 17 July 2023.

CCTV of the moment of the collision was shown at the inquest in Ruthin on Friday.

Mr Bagnall's cause of death was given as thoracic trauma after rupturing his aorta.

The inquest heard that Mr Bagnall had no drugs and a negligible amount of alcohol in his system.

The 26-year-old father-of-two, from Berwig Court in Coedpoeth, had to be freed by firefighters but died soon after arriving at Wrexham Maelor hospital.

The inquest heard that the car he was driving belonged to Charlotte Williams, who was a front-seat passenger in the vehicle.

She suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

In a subsequent statement, Ms Williams said that her brain injury meant that she could remember very little about the evening.

Forensic collision investigator Gordon Saynor said marks indicated that the Vauxhall had hit the kerb of a central traffic island and Mr Bagnall had corrected it.

The vehicle had then moved sideways before crashing into a stanchion outside the bakery.

"I cannot calculate the speed of the vehicle from any of the evidence," Mr Saynor told the inquest.

The coroner recorded a conclusion of death in a road traffic collision.
