Fire crews are still fighting a blaze at a chemical factory after explosions and a subsequent blaze.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews were expecting to stay at the Synthite factory on Denbigh Road in Mold, Flintshire, overnight.

Firefighters were called to a blaze in the production area of the factory at about 14:05 BST on Tuesday.

The company said no chemicals were released during the fire and one person was treated in hospital for shock.

One person was taken to Countess of Chester Hospital for further treatment - the company said they were discharged on Tuesday night.

People living nearby have also been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

The Health and Safety Executive said it was aware of the incident and was making inquiries.

Synthite said: "The fire was contained to a production facility and adjacent storage area. No chemicals were released during or after the incident, with frequent air monitoring in place.

"Operations on site are paused while we wait for the all-clear from the fire service."

The company thanked employees for "swift actions to raise the alarm" and nearby residents for their "patience" following a cordon in an area around the plant.
