Powys council's education department is being asked to save 拢4m and children's services 拢2.8m

Services across mid Wales are expected to be cut by 20% as part of a money-saving drive.

Powys council has revealed it needs to find savings of 拢27m over the next three years.

This is in addition to nearly 拢40m cuts the local authority has had to make since 2012.

Deputy leader and cabinet member for finance, councillor Wynne Jones, warned it "will still have to face some very difficult choices".

Mr Jones said the cabinet will have to consider options such as raising the school starting age, charging for post-16 school transport, changes to older people's care provision and changes to children's services.

"We will do all we can to discuss changes with our communities but it is going to be a difficult period in the county's history," he added.
