The Welsh government is backing Charlies' plans on land it owns at Offa's Dyke Business Park

Retailer Charlies Stores has submitted plans to open a new head office and e-commerce centre in Powys after online sales grew 80% in the last year.

Bosses said the new facilities were needed as it was reaching capacity at sites in Welshpool and Newtown.

The move will "safeguard" the current 67 jobs in the head office and warehouse.

As well as the plans for Offa's Dyke Business Park, Welshpool, the company said it aims to open two more stores.

The family business, which employs 363 staff, started 30 years ago with Army surplus shops and now has seven stores.

The Welsh government owns the land earmarked for the new head office and is seeking planning permission for it.
