A high school in Flintshire will close because of falling pupil numbers, councillors have agreed.

About 40 people gathered outside Mold's county hall building on Thursday to protest against plans to shut John Summers High School in Queensferry.

Flintshire council said it recognised the sensitivity of the issue, but said it had to "balance its books".

The school will shut in August 2017. The closure is part of a wider schools reorganisation in the county.

The council's cabinet was told the school had a low annual intake of pupils into Year 7 and the school budget was under pressure.

Flintshire council leader Arron Shotton said the sixth form would close from September 2016 and the whole school would follow a year later.
