Rescued search dog JoJo to have leg amputated
A highly trained rescue dog found after 14 days trapped on a fence is to have a hind leg amputated.
JoJo, a spaniel, was found by another dog from International Rescue Training Centre Wales after going missing on a walk at Penmaenmawr in Conwy.
Her owner, David Jones, said the six-year-old, who is trained to search for human remains, took a turn for the worse on Tuesday with an infection.
Mr Jones said a decision will be made on Wednesday about the operation.
"The blood tests haven't come back yet but we know that she's got to have a leg amputated," said Mr Jones.
"They are worried about her kidneys though, and whether she'll be well enough for the leg to come off, because the infection in the leg has spread."
The kennel owner and search and rescue dog trainer said kidney damage could also affect JoJo's eyesight.
"We're facing vet's bills of around 拢1,000, and she won't work again. She'll just be a pet after this," he added.
