Philip Madoc: A career in pictures
The actor Philip Madoc, who was born in Merthyr Tydfil, has died at the age of 77
One of his earliest television roles was as Von Koren in a production of Chekhov's The Duel, broadcast on 大象传媒 TV in 1963
Like many actors of his generation, Madoc appeared in Doctor Who, playing a war lord in the 1969 adventure War Games
He returned to the sci-fi series in 1976 as Solon, creator of a monstrous body for "The Brain of Morbius". He appeared in Doctor Who on four occasions as four different characters over the years.
One of Madoc's most exotic roles was as a Native American, playing Magua in a 1971 大象传媒 TV production of The Last of the Mohicans
Madoc appeared in the comedy series Dad's Army as a German U-boat captain. When asking the names of his captors, he prompted the famous line "Don't tell him, Pike!" from Captain Mainwaring (Arthur Lowe).
Madoc was reunited with Private Pike (Ian Lavender) in a 2008 大象传媒 TV tribute to Dad's Army
One of Madoc's most famous roles was that of fellow Welshman David Lloyd George in The Life and Times of David Lloyd George
