Wales rugby player and "proud traveller" Samson Lee has had his planning application for a site housing six static caravans approved.

The Scarlets prop will move himself and his family to land near Llangennech, Llanelli, next to the A4138.

Carmarthenshire council had originally deferred the application for a site visit but has now approved the plans.

A said Mr Lee's family had "longstanding multi-generation links" with the area.

As well as the static caravans, the application included the building of an access road as well as landscaping on the site.

Conditions attached to the approved application include that there will be a maximum of six caravans, and only people defined by law as gypsies and travellers can live there.

Plaid Cymru councillor for Llangennech, Gwyneth Thomas, objected to the application, citing heavy traffic and a rejected application at the same site two years ago.

But, in a report, the council's head of housing, Robin Staines, said the proposal would "assist in meeting the identified need for additional gypsy and traveller sites in the county".
