The installation of a 拢660,000 water treatment plant should solve Alderney's problems with poor quality drinking water, the island's States has said.

The facility at Battery Quarry was found to filter water to levels above the UK and European guidelines.

Martyn Brown, the project manager, said: "The island has long suffered with inconsistent quality and colour.

"The topic of island bath water has become an unwelcome legend but one that is now consigned to the history books."

The year-long States project came in 拢40,000 under budget.
