A new air route between the Channel Islands and Newquay is due to start operating in May.

Air Southwest is launching the service between the Cornish airport and Guernsey and Jersey alongside its route to Plymouth Airport.

Mike Coombes, commercial director, said: "Cornwall was voted the top UK holiday destination for the second year running by the British Travel Awards.

"We're delighted to make the county more accessible."

A spokesperson for Guernsey's Commerce and Employment Department said: "We look forward to speaking with them to identify potential opportunities for promoting destination Guernsey specifically within this catchment area."

Paul Routier, Jersey's Assistant Minister for Economic Development, said: "I am pleased for Jersey residents that we now offer them a further route to our ever increasing network of domestic services.

"Equally, this new service opens up a great opportunity for inbound tourism."
