Commercial jets return to Guernsey Airport

Commercial jets will return to Guernsey Airport from Easter Sunday after a five year absence.

It follows 拢81m of work on the Guernsey Airport runway, strengthening it so the jets can land.

The States-owned airline Aurigny was considering adding a jet to its fleet, a decision will be made in the summer.

A spokesman for Flybe said the return was the result of pressure from Guernsey authorities.

Ashley Nicholas, deputy director at Guernsey Airport, said: "We know from our various discussion that business groups in particular, but also the tourist industry, were keen to see the reintroduction of jet services to and from the island.

"These new aircraft will be quieter and produce less emissions than older types which operated to and from Guernsey in the past."
