Islanders could celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton with a public holiday.

Jersey's Chief Minister Terry le Sueur intends to propose the day off when the wedding date has been announced.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has already said he is in favour of a public holiday to mark the occasion.

Senator Le Sueur told 大象传媒 Jersey he thinks the day needs to be marked with a holiday because it is a special occasion and deserves recognition.

He said: "I think the royal wedding deserves recognition by the people of Jersey. It is a special occasion and should be marked as such.

"I am sure Islanders will want to join with me in wishing the royal couple all good wishes on that day.

"In order to mark that I think a public holiday similar to what is likely to happen in the UK is the most appropriate."
