Jersey's Lieutenant Governor, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgeway, has been invited to the royal wedding.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will be getting married at Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011.

Nearly 2,000 people have been invited, but the lieutenant governor's wife is not one of them.

Mr Ridgeway said: "Unfortunately the invitation appears to be just for me, I'm told all the official guests are for the individual alone."

He said: "It would have been nice if we could all go but I think there are only about 700 non-personal guests from the entire world."

Mr Ridgeway said it was an honour to be invited and that he was looking forward to going.

On the invitation, the Lord Chamberlain, commanded by the Queen, invites the guest to the wedding.

Mr Ridgeway said he felt it was important the island was represented at the wedding as it is a formal dependency of the Crown.

He also hoped the royal princes would visit the island in the future.

He said: "It is something we have discussed with the palace and in the fullness of time he [Prince William] will be here."
