Jersey will be in a heat wave by the end of the week according to the Jersey Met Office.

Senior met officer, Anthony Pallot, said to be a heat wave temperatures needed to be 5C above average for more than five consecutive days.

The normal average temperature for July in Jersey is 22C.

Mr Pallot said temperatures have been about 27C and are likely to stay that way until the end of the week which would put Jersey in a heat wave.

Jersey Met says the last time Jersey experienced a five-day spell of hot weather with maximum temperatures above 26C was July 2006.

Temperatures are expected to be between 26C and 30C over the next week according to forecasters.

Mr Pallot said: "The average maximum temperature over the standard 30-year climate period for this time of year in Jersey is around 22C.

"The current period of hot dry weather is likely to continue into next week, with drought conditions looking a real possibility by the weekend."

Jersey Water said they were monitoring conditions but reservoirs were 81% full.
