Amnesty International: 'Rape widespread' in Haiti camps
Hundreds of Haitian women and girls have been sexually attacked in camps set up after last year's devastating earthquake, the human right group Amnesty International says in a new report.
The incidents of sexual violence have increased since the disaster, with makeshift shelters providing no protection for women, the report's author, Gerardo Ducos, told the 大象传媒 World Service.
"During the night armed youth gangs just go inside the tents or they rip through the tents with knives or razor blades, and they just rape the women they find," Mr Ducos said.
Most of the attackers are never punished, Mr Ducos added. "Most of the women told us that they don't go to the police because they don't think it's worth it."
