In pictures: Oval Office redecoration
One of the most famous parts of the White House, the president's Oval Office, has been redecorated for Barack Obama - with new and reupholstered furniture, new paint and wallpaper.
The new rug in wheat, cream and blue is made of 25% recycled wool and was donated by a firm in Michigan.
The pictures of the president's family are one point of continuity.
But the wallpaper is among the things to have changed.
The White House said the cost of the redecoration was comparable to the cost of work done by the previous two presidents.
Mr Obama chose political quotes from Presidents Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt, Lincoln, and Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King for the border of the rug.
