John Wayne's green beret fetches $180,000 at auction
A green beret worn by the late actor John Wayne in the famous 1968 film The Green Berets sold for almost $180,000 (拢116,000) at auction.
A total $5.3m was raised from the sale of more than 700 of Wayne's costumes and personal items - a portion of which will go to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.
An eye patch Wayne wore in the 1969 movie True Grit sold for $47,800.
It was the first time since Wayne's death that his effects had been sold.
Dozens of items exceeded their estimated price at the sale in Los Angeles.
The green beret set a new record price for a costume hat, said Heritage Auctions, which organised the sale.
John Wayne, best-known for his work in westerns, starred in more than 150 films over the course of five decades.
