An assault charge against the brother and agent of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has been dropped, according to Miami prosecutors.

Dane Rashford was reportedly arrested by police in Miami Beach, Florida, after travelling in the back of an Uber with a woman on 20 October.

A police report at the time noted the alleged victim claimed she was punched in the face twice.

The case was listed for a court hearing on 27 November, but it never occurred.

Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office told the 大象传媒 "numerous attempts" were made to contact the victim in the case via telephone and email - adding the attempts were "unsuccessful".

"Since evidentiary input from the victim is essential for a criminal case to proceed, the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office had no choice but to drop the case at the arraignment," a spokeswoman said.

In the police report, seen by the 大象传媒 in November, an officer described making contact with the victim in the early hours of the morning after being called to a four-star hotel on Miami Beach.

Officers took statements from the victim, Mr Rashford and his sister, Chantelle Maynard, before taking Mr Rashford, of Wilmslow, to custody and later charging him with battery.

But, Mr Rashford's lawyer, Alex Spiro, said charges against the 31-year-old were "quickly dismissed" and described the incident as a "misunderstanding".

He added: "Mr Rashford did not even have to appear in court."

It is understood the Rashford family believe the matter to be resolved.
