Weather Team

The forecast looks good for local people who want to keep up-to-date with what’s happening on the weather front here.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Northern Ireland is making a major commitment to providing enhanced weather output across its services on TV, radio and online with more local weather bulletins each day, seven days a week.

This commitment includes a dedicated team of local weather presenters: Angie Phillips will be joined by Cecilia Daly and Jackie McCann in providing more weather bulletins seven days a week, across all our services.

"Weather is something people here love talking about because every day it can influence us so much"

Angie Phillips

Our audiences have been telling us that they would like to have access to more local forecasts so we’ve taken their suggestions on board and invested in our weather output. We want to make ´óÏó´«Ã½ Northern Ireland the source for weather information for local people – when they want and where they want it, be it TV, radio or online.

The new weather output will mean that there will be local weather forecasts weekdays starting at 6.30am on Good Morning Ulster on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Ulster and on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Newsline at breakfast time. There will be forecasts throughout the day on most ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Ulster news bulletins right up to midnight and inside each local ´óÏó´«Ã½ Newsline bulletin on TV until 10.30pm. Online users can also access customised video forecasts.

We’ll be telling the weather story - how it’s likely to affect you wherever you are in Northern Ireland – if it’s a day to have a brolly with you, if tomorrow is a day for the garden or if you’ll need to take care while out in the sun.

"We’re taking a fresh look at how we present the weather to our audiences."

Cecilia Daly

We’ll still be using the most up-to-date weather maps and graphics on TV and by using the latest advanced weather forecasting technology, we’ll continue trying to forecast as accurately as possible in a clear and understandable way so you’re up to date with what’s happening with the weather in your area.

Jackie is also looking forward to the challenge of presenting the weather.

"It’s definitely very exciting for me and I’m really looking forward to it."

Jackie McCann

She just got married recently so you can imagine how keen she was to know what the weather was going to be like on her wedding day, so she knows how important it can be for people to know what’s in store.

We’re also asking local people to contact us with their own weather stories and to let us know how it’s affecting them. We’d also like to hear from people across Northern Ireland who would like to act as our ‘weather spotters’ – people who would be happy for us to contact them from time to time to give us an on-the-spot weather report of what’s happening in their area.

Local people can continue submitting their weather photographs via the email address: nipics@bbc.co.uk
