Northern Ireland Air Show

I normally enjoy the Northern Ireland Air Show from the comfort of my own back garden.

The flight path is usually over my home in County Antrim, so I get to avoid the queuing just a few footsteps from my front door. But how could I resist the offer of getting up close and personal to some of our best known planes and air teams?

So I headed to the North Coast to see a preview of what's to come this weekend - a two day aerial extravaganza. Almost 200,000 people are expected to head to the seaside town this weekend to take in the popular aeronautical display, held annually in the West Bay. And who could resist the Red Arrows Display Team, which will be there both days?

Organised by Coleraine Borough Council, the event also boasts the US Skybolt team, Team Guinot Wingwalkers, the Blades Display Team, the Royal Navy Black Cats as well as special flyovers from the Spitfire and the Dakota. Over 60 spectacular air displays will take to the skies above Portrush over the weekend to ensure many have stiff necks by the time they go home!

Andy Offer

I managed to get great footage of the Blades Display Team in action at the West Bay. And if I thought being on the ground was nerve wracking, that was nothing compared to what the boys were experiencing in the air. I managed to get footage of that too - thanks to Andy Offer, former Red Arrows leader and now a member of the Blades. He handed over his cockpit tape - and it is amazing!

Jeff Brownhut

The man behind the whole organisation of the event is Jeff Brownhut. He started off life as a ´óÏó´«Ã½ engineer. Now he puts together the Northern Ireland Airshow on behalf of Coleraine Borough Council. He's from Somerset, a greater talker and very enthusiastic about the airshow - as you can see from the interview.

But there was one special surprise for me - I was offered the chance to wingwalk, glide or go on one of the stunt planes. Weighing up all the odds, I plumped for the wingwalk! Did I do it? Well, you'll just have to watch ´óÏó´«Ã½ Newsline at 6.30pm for the answer to that…. And to give you a hint, this is a woman who can't get on the roller coaster at Barry's. But maybe I'm bluffing…..
