School for Migrant Workers

Back to School

They'll be glad to know that attendance isn't compulsory.

But O'Kane's Poultry in Ballymena is hoping its new Learning Suite - opened with the backing of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union - will give staff the chance to improve their literacy, numeracy and technology skills on site. It should be of particular benefit to migrant workers at the plant.

And as our reporter in the North-East, Nicola Weir, found out, locals are also taking advantage of the courses on offer.
