What's a mollusc to do when it gets the munchies?

A group of snails has been munching on people's mail in a post box in Devon.

According to local postmen and women the cheeky molluscs have been eating the glue that holds the envelopes in shape.

Royal Mail has put up a sign on the post box in the village of Lewdown, to warn people about the greedy slimesters.

They also said they had been removing the snails every day, but "they are very determined & return".

The sign has been on the post box for a few months, and the message reads: "Whilst you are very welcome to continue using this post box, we wanted to mention that your letter may not arrive without some nibble marks around the edges."

Some residents think the plants growing around the post box might have encouraged the snails to find a home there.

Royal Mail says people can post their mail at the local village post office, which they say has not been visited by hungry snails... yet!
