A 'lonely' donkey called Harold has been sent lots of offers of friendship, after an appeal was launched to find him a buddy for Valentine's Day.

That's because Harold's best friend - a goat called Billy - sadly passed away last December, and since then his owners Dot and Carl were concerned about him feeling lonely.

The couple put up a message in a local farm shop in Leicestershire, saying they were looking for potential pals for Harold, and were wowed by how many messages they received.

They are now planning to arrange a meet-up with some potential pals for Harold.

So far the couple have lined up two potential suitors for Harold - a pair of pygmy goats from Cambridgeshire, and female goat (also known as a nanny goat).

The nanny goat is not yet confirmed until the couple have a chat with their owner, but Dot said: "If she says yes, we'll have the three, we've got the room for it! Harold won't know what's hit him.

"Hopefully, it goes to plan. I've not mentioned it to Harold because I don't want to disappoint him."

"[Harold] is a big boy, but he's a sweet boy." she added.
