England have made it to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, which means the team is still in Germany when adults in the UK vote in the general election on Thursday.

So for footballers looking to put crosses in boxes - this time on a ballot paper and not on a football pitch - how are they able to vote from a different country?

Newsround contacted the Football Association (FA) and they told us they let the players' representatives know the competition would clash with the general election.

Meaning members of the squad will be able to either vote by proxy, when someone else can vote on your behalf, or vote by post.

The Lionesses are also away from England at the moment- at a training camp in the Netherlands - so they've been told about this as well.

A postal vote means sending your vote by post.

When an adult registers to vote, they can choose to register for a postal vote. Those that do receive a letter with a ballot paper in before the date of the election.

So that their vote is counted, postal voters have to make sure they make their choice and send their ballot paper by post by a certain date, before the general election day.

Voting by proxy is when an adult chooses someone to go and vote for them.

This happens when a person is unable to vote in person at a polling station and asks someone they trust to vote on their behalf.

It involves telling the nominated person which candidate to vote for.

People who register for a proxy vote often do so because they are out of the country, have work commitments, or have a medical issue or disability.
