Whilst often they are called UFOs - Unidentified Flying Objects - by the public, space experts now prefer to use the term UAP which stands for Unidentified Aerial Phenomena or Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.

Some experts feel that after years of movies and books, UFOs make people think of science-fiction and not scientific study.

UAPs can be anything from an odd sighting in the sky, to aircraft being used in the wrong way.

In 2022, Nasa announced that they were putting together a new team which would investigating sightings and making a plan for dealing with future UAPs.

The team, made up of a variety of scientists, were all experts in different subjects including aviation, space travel, planets and even medicine and the oceans.

The meeting was titled 鈥淯nidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Exposing the Truth鈥 and a number of experts spoke at the event.

Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) is the new name for Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs).

They included former government workers and a member of Nasa's UAP Independent Study Team.

During the hearing, despite claims about mysterious flying objects, no direct evidence was presented to say they were aliens.

Guests at the hearings claimed that the US military and intelligence departments are apparently "sitting on a huge amount of visual and other information" including videos and photos.

Former Nasa employee Michael Gold explained: "The vast majority of UAP are drones, experimental aircraft and weather condition" however he argued that those sightings that don't fall into those categories need to be studied closer and better captured with technology.

The hearing was jointly lead by Chairs Nancy Mace and Glenn Grothman who said the meeting help in order to hear "from expert witnesses on ways to shed more light ...(on) this issue.

"Americans deserve to understand what the government has learned about UAP sightings, and the nature of any potential threats these phenomena pose," they added.

Last year, Nasa released a long-awaited report which studied previous mysterious sightings in the skies.

In it, they said they didn't find any concrete evidence the sightings were aliens... but admitted it's possible that they could be.
