Being a young Muslim in Norwich

Salsabil is a teenager but unlike the majority of young people in Norwich, she's also a Muslim. She talks about what it's like to be practising member of her faith in the city.

Fifteen-year-old Salsabil and her friend Dina think being a Muslim and living in Norwich is not really that difficult.

The thing that makes them look different is, of course, their head scarves.

The girls both wear colourful scarves which cover their hair only, not their faces.

But as they听agreed, a lot of people think these are cool and want to know how they tie them so stylishly听round their heads!

"People don't take the mickey out of us," said Salsabil.

"And we dress normally," added Dina.

"We do regular things like other people, we go out and do stuff like go to the cinema with our friends. The other night we went to see X-Men which was really good," said Salsabil.

Both girls agree it's not hard to practise their religion in Norwich. They feel really privileged to be Muslim. It makes them feel proud and happy.

Like any other teenager, Salsabil has several hobbies, including running. She's also a keen artist and has spent time living in Spain and is a fluent speaker.

The Ihsan mosque is central to the whole community's existence. It is where they gather to pray and to socialise.

Salsabil says being part of a small Muslim community in the city is fun and there is a real closeness. They take care of each other and help each other out, which also makes her feel special.

Well i would not want to become a muslim .Fun while you are young and live in norfolk .Well what when you become older and have a muslim husband .And have to what your husband says .And cover up to the feet with just your face and hands showing
