Lot 55 will join five other unsigned bands from the east of England who are playing in Duxford's new multi-million pound air hangar for the Children In Need celebrations. "Children in Need should be fantastic," said Daren Francis, who plays guitar. "It's great to be part of the charity event, and to be helping a good cause." The band got together just over a year ago, after singer/songwriter Will Overton got though to the finals of the EDP's Next Big Thing competition and advertised for musicians. Since their first gig last November at the Brickmakers in Norwich, the four-piece have gone on to play at venues around the region, including a sellout gig for Oxjam at Norwich's Waterfront where they supported Cord. Gathering momentum "It's really starting to pick up at the moment – we put a CD out at the Oxjam gig and they all went that night," said Daren. "We had people asking us how they could get their hands on a copy. We never dreamed of doing this well within just a year of getting together." The group describe their sound as melodic indie-rock, and have a wide variety of influences. "Will’s very into American bands like Jimmy Eat World and Foo Fighters, but I'm much more influenced by Britpop, so it makes for an interesting combination when we come together to write songs," said Daren. Get together At least one of the acts playing at Duxford will be familiar to Lot 55. Rosalita have been to Norwich to support them, and then the group travelled to Rosalita's home town of Ipswich to repay the favour. "Children In Need should be a great occasion. The boys from Rosalita are good fun, so it will be good to see them again, but we're also looking forward to meeting the other bands from around the region," said Daren. "It’s also a chance to play to people who wouldn’t normally get to hear us.
