I think it is time to give Zema Abbey a run
in the side. It is difficult to maintain consistency when
he is constantly being given two or three minutes every week.
He is the only one who has the potential
to take over from Iwan as the no. 1 striker and I think he
should be given a fair crack at the whip as he has only just
come back from a career threatening injury.
I must admit that I am filled with fear
when I think of us playing Portsmouth away without Kenton
and Fleming. I would be tempted to go for a five man midfield
and counter attack 'Reading style'.

- but he's not happy! |
Roy,
Firstly well done for sticking to your promise and wearing
the Ipswich shirt.
Secondly I think that all fans of both Ipswich and Norwich
should get a lot of credit for the way that they behaved on
Sunday, last night's game in Birmingham shows what happens
when local rivalry goes too far.
I went to Sheffield United and after the game the atmosphere
outside the ground was pretty sour. I didn't get to the game
but just manage to listen to your show in Nottingham.
In the daytime the reception is good but in the evening your
voice is mixed with American forces radio on medium wave.
Finally as I work in Nottingham I know a lot of Forest, Derby
and some Leicester fans, so hope that Norwich can leave me
not too embarrassed in the next few weeks when they play in
the East Midlands. Hope we can beat Reading tomorrow.

Hi, im currently at Leeds uni but try to
get home for as many matches as possible and any away games
that I can afford to see! Just followed Norwich-Ipswich game
on the internet and just can't believe that Henderson and
Abbey didn't get a start. How can they show consistency when
they don't get a chance to start?
Surely their performance when they do get to make an appearance
is enough to gain them a regular place in the team! Their
confidence, motivation and determination make up for any lack
of first team experience. Henderson and Abbey are the way
forward for Norwich at the moment - our only hope of getting
to Cardiff. Can't Worthington see that.
It seems that it's all too little too late for Worthington
in most games! I'm also a big fan of Russell and hope he's
back in the team as soon as possible.

On the ball City! I'm currently exiled at

I listened as intently as ever to Roy and
Neil on Saturday. It was the same again for all to see and
it goes back to Bradford City away when the team was disrupted
to accommodate Fleming!!!!
Kenton was getting rave reviews, the team
was playing as a team, all that was needed was to accommodate
Abbey when fit again. All progress has stopped, neither Fleming
nor Mackay can properly distribute the ball, let alone bring
it out of defence, consequently it's like a pin ball machine
when the opposition encroach on our defence let alone attack.
If the Kenton thing was sorted out and he
was reinstated we could play Briggs, Kenton and Drury at the
back (mobile and pacey).
We could use Russell in midfield with Mulryne
and Holt with possibly Higginbottom and Easton. We could have
Abbey and McVeigh up front.
This would create a thoroughly adaptable
mobile force along the lines of what we finished last season
and started so well the beginning of this. Otherwise it will
be another season of mid-bottom table mediocrity.

I'ts time for Worthington to go. His team
selection and tactics are a disgrace. Does he not realise

Cardiff is a million miles away at the moment.
What is he doing with Kenton? Is he not the best player at
the club?. The fact he may be on his way is no reason not
to play him.

As another season goes by in Div 1 and we
watch City somehow lose to another poor team, I have to ask
why don't we get a winger on loan? Other teams use/abuse the
loan system but Nigel seems to ignore what everyone else can
see.
It's obvious Mark Rivers is too inconsistent
to play such an important role. Also put Kenton in the centre
for Fleming. Fleming is no longer the force he was. How about
McVeigh and Neilson as a pairing again?
Is it true City are going to be sponsored
by 'Easymeat' on their away shirts next year?

Re Watford fiasco, quotes heard:
WORTHINGTON:"We passed the ball very well, I was very
pleased with the performance."
NEIL ADAMS:"That's how we've played for the last 18 months,
if it ain't broke don't fix it."
Well gentlemen, you have both lost the plot
totally. Sorry! The performance as diabolical in the extreme.
Shots at goal???? You're joking. Clearing out of defence?
No one to clear to!
The first goal came because we failed to
clear the ball out of defence, not just once but two or three
times, and when the cross came in not one player moved to
try and stop it.
The second goal was again a cross with 11
defenders but not one moved to defend it. What's the point
of Neilsen in defence, are you expecting him to get the ball
in the air?? Joke lads. If we have 11 defenders who don't
try and defend we cannot get out and threaten the opposition
goal, so we won't score and won't win. In 3 weeks we will
be 10th and behind Ipswich.
Dagenham and Redbridge must have watched
with glee!!! Come on guys, you've shown what you can do, so
get on and do it. And one more thing. GET A WIDE PLAYER WHO
CAN CROSS THE BALL PLEASE!!!!!!!!

I am writing in response to some of the phonecalls
made to Canary Call after the game on Saturday against Rotherham.
I have to wonder whether these people actually go to the game
or understand football at all? There are several comments
I would like to make and would ask these are passed on to
Neil Adams.
The first relates to man of the match. No
one (of the calls I heard) commented on this on Saturday.
Wasn't it about time Adam Drury got this, well done to him.
He works hard week in and week out. He is one of our most
talented players, rarely does anything wrong and I have to
say that if he were sold it would be a real problem for the
club trying to find someone of his calibre to replace him.
The second relates to peoples comments and
criticism of Mark Rivers. I thought he had a good game on
Saturday and was in contention for Man of the Match along
with Darel Russell and Adam Drury. I believe the fans need
to realise that he isnt a defender and accept it at that.
His job is to run at men and put the ball in. That is what
he does. Give the guy a break. I remember people making life
tough for Iwan when he first joined and it doesnt help the
players at all.
The third comment relates to Phil Mulryne.
I thought Neil Adams hit the nail on the head on Saturday
with his comment about Phil. If you look at all teams doing
well they have a leader in midfield - the playmaker.
Liverpool are struggling at the moment and
one of the main reasons is that Gerrard isnt doing his job.
He was the leader and playmaker. Leeds arent winning games
because they dont have a playmaker or leader. Gary Holt is
a hardworker but he is not a playmaker, Phil is but is not
working hard at all.
The times we play well and score is when
Phil switches on and starts to play. This has not happened
enough for my liking this season and if I were the manager
I would rest him for a couple of games and let Daryl Russell
in to the midfield. Hopefully then Steen Needergard would
be fit enough to play at the back. He has been sorely missed.
Finally the fans say that the team are lacklustre
and unenthusiastic. Have they heard themselves for the first
half recently. All I want to say is that they ought to wake
up and support tirelessly whatever is happening on the pitch
for 90mins. It doesnt help the players whose confidence is
low at the moment, for whatever reason. It worked last season
so do it again and stop moaning and booing.

Whilst we would possibly all agree that Norwich
are not playing to their maximum potential at the moment -
it's not that long ago that we were looking over our shoulders
at relegation to Division Two. Norwich have always been a
frustration to their fans leaving them to scratch their heads
at results. Its not just Norwich who are inconsistent in Division
One. Maybe its best to have a loss of form now, rather than
a lost confidence leading up to the play-offs at the end of
the season.

Hi everyone, As much as i like Iwan Roberts,
i believe that maybe he should'nt start every game, he is
a great player and a real worker for the team, but i just
feel Zema Abbey, David Nielsen, and young Ian Henderson, should
get a chance to start games, give them a chance Worthy, and
see what happens? They are all quick and very good players,
we need pace at the front, and more importantly some one who
will take all there chances and just keep trying for goals
all the time, we will never score if you don't shoot!! OTBC

Roy and Neil,
Do you think we should maybe put the money to improve the
south stand into the team to get a couple of real good players?
I am not saying that we don't have good players because we
do - sometimes we just lack that killer touch which may be
a real top divison player has. I say this because if we have
a good side and go up the money will come to improve the ground.
I'd also like to say how I enjoy your match cover when I am
not able to get to the ground. Keep up the good work.

I don't know how Worthy can persist without
playing established wingers Clint Easton and Mark Rivers.
These two guys are matchwinners and should be in every starting
XI. Over the last 10 games of the season, Easton and Rivers
got in the team and this coincided with our fantastic run
to the play-offs and also kick-started our away form (which
lasted until Easton was dropped this season). I know Worthy
complains about the tempo and talked about 'coasters' in the
Wimbledon defeat. But Easton was out of position and is always
effective on the left at getting crosses in. He played well
against Millwall at home and then was unjustfiably dropped
from the squad.
Rivers can be lazy, but like Libbra he is a matchwinner who
will score and above all create goals. I believe he was getting
back to form slowly after his injury and should have played
against Wolves. Iwan Roberts has carried our football club
for the past 5 seasons. He is a fantastic striker who is brilliant
at holding up the ball and linking up play. However, there
are signs this season that his timing seems to have gone along
with his pace. True, he has scored goals. But he will score
goals against the weaker sides at home. However, against teams
of quality, or away from home when we need a bit of pace on
the counter-attack he is found somewhat wanting.
I was at Molineux on Saturday and when we brought Nielson
and Abbey on we looked much more threatening. I believe that
when Abbey is fully fit, he should start. However, I would
be tempted to pluck for Nielson and McVeigh with Roberts to
come on from the bench should we need to change things.
Things are looking good, but I do not believe
we are at the level of the end of last season and we cannot
afford to fall away again.

Dear Neil and Roy, we are in for one hell
of a thrashing tomorrow away to Wolves I am afraid to say.
I think we will lose 4-0 and we will be 2-0 down at half time.
Norwich's recent form has been poor despite results. When
will Worthy wake up and smell the coffee?
If he doesn't start with Henderson tomorrow
then we will never set off on the right foot. I have been
a Norwich supporter too long to know just when you think we
are going places - they (the team) always let you down.
As for the rest of the season - well we will
end up in the play offs, but we won't be going to Cardiff
this time I am afraid, mark my words come May!

My name's Chris Goreham and I was presenting
Radio Norfolk's Programme from Carrow Road. As a live show
happening on a Saturday afternoon our policy is to give out

We had a reporter covering the match at Twickenham

Many people do depend on us giving them an

Hi! I'm a Norwich fan. I was just going to
say that McVeigh really should be playing upfront with Roberts.
That's where he scored nearly all his goals from. Nielsen
has really been as good as how he was against Millwall in
the past 3 matches. Him being on the bench and coming on is
a lot better and he scores more goals that way. And also what
happened to Easton? He played great against Millwall and that
was the last game we won. And I hope Rivers starts again,
and I hope he's been practising his crosses as well. The only
problem is that he might not survive the whole match.

I have been an avid internet listener. I just want to say
thanks for yours and Roy's constructive yet critical points
of view. As for today's performance (31.08.2002), the difference
between the two teams was belief and hunger.
I really believe that Norwich have got what it takes to go
one better this season. It seems as though the understanding
