Capturing Corby

As Corby changes almost beyond recognition, a photographer is preserving on film the town's unloved estates.

James Smith's mission is to capture the essence of Corby before its rundown estates and blocks of decaying flats are razed to the ground.

These unloved parts of the town will soon become lost worlds, remembered only by the people who lived there.

Corby is undergoing a massive regeneration programme.听Homes - even entire streets - which are deemed 'failing' or 'problem areas' are facing the bulldozers.

The Alter Project aims to provide a visual audit of the Lodge Park, Danesholme and Kingswood areas of Corby before the changes take place.

As well as taking photographs, James is spending time chatting to residents about their lives.

His pictures will be exhibited at the Fermynwoods Contemporary Art Gallery in Brigstock between 1 March and 15 April 2007.听The gallery is open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays within these dates and is open between 2pm and 6pm. Admission is free.

Corby is a cool place to live and is judged by its cover too much! it has it bad areas but which place doesnt!?! the redevelopment is wicked!

liz
I think it is a good thing as i think crime has been cut in lincoln way due to getting rid of a lot of nuisence people. I just hope they build something of use on the area like a doctors surgery or clinic. or maybe even a police yard!

Paul
corby is a rough enviroment 2 grow up in but for all the things it has wrong with it it makes up for if you are raised here you are told 2 respect or you dont get no respect others or you ave a good chance of getin a kik in and if you want 2 say something then go ahead and say it or youll never get the chance 2 agen or youll be ridciculed by the groups of youths that populate the streets of corby evry wer u walk thers history in this town the redevlopment is just another page of history to corby town

I only recently moved away from Corby and nothing is wrong with it. It looks bad but you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. It might be rough but you wont find nicer people.

Pete
Corby deserves its reputation _ ive lived there for 30 years and it gets worse every year . Give it 10 years and the redeveloped areas will be just as bad as they are now . People only move to Corby because the houses are cheap - there cheap because if you had more money you'd live elsewhere!

The redevelopment of Corby is a great Idea! especially the town centre as it wll attract alot more and better business to corby, and will hopefully attract some friendlier people to corby, it's ashame though that all that gets shown on television of corby is the worser sides of town.

Sandy
I'm glad to see that something is being done for this area. Hopefully it will change the perception that many people have of Corby, for it has had a bad reputation in the past.
