The Piano

By Alice Flunder, 11, from Hartwell.

An old sad man sat at the smooth shiny piano by himself. The dark room was as silent as a butterfly fluttering from leaf to leaf; he started to play a wonderful tune. He could see all of the bad things that had happened in his life.

The man imagined his wife playing the piano with him she looked so gentle and soft like a fur rug lying on the floor. Her perfume was all he could smell. She kissed him good by as her body slowly faded away like fog on a musky day.

He kept on playing non stop. Through his visions he saw his friend and him in the army, his friend was about to be shot. He screamed as the bullet headed towards him at full speed. Bang! and..... he was shot. The man could see his friend dieing in his arms.

While the music was going, the man could not help but look sadder than at the beginning of the beautiful tune. He looked as sad as an orphan trying to find food.

Suddenly, he saw him as a boy in his; he felt the cold blue silky ribbon on the present, the brown box rubbed against his smooth skin. It was a hobby horse. He galloped up and down the room.

The boy changed to the man' grand son. Blue trainers, brown hair and a green top. His grandson sat by his side and they played the piano together. They loved each other very much. The last note was high it gave hope and they looked at each other slowly.
