(This piece describes the therapeutic process gone through by a recovering trauma survivor in the style of a computer programme (hence process-ing), 'program' in the American spelling and some use of colour).

Process-ing

PROGRAM
The purpose of this program is healing past trauma

Option Explicit

Definitions
Paranoia=getting too close to pain
Anger= protect me from sadness
Sadness= grief
Triggering = not remembering and not forgetting either
Flashback = remembering
Guilt = anger turned in
Feelings = enrichment
New feelings = joy, pleasure, sorrow, happiness, confidence, contentment
T = therapist
Memory = reawakening

1. Click Flare_Up to start

<Click!>

2. Then

Select Acceptance

Then
Select a T

Then

3. For value = now to unspecified

Select memory fragment at random

Then trigger

Then numb

Then flashback
Select auditory, visual, smell or feeling

Then

4. Click New_Conundrum to start processing

Select paranoia and anger

Loop for three days each
Then

5. Click 'Aha' to continue processing

Select anger and guilt
Add sadness
Loop for three days each

Then
Add memory and feeling
Loop anger, sadness, guilt and new feeling for three days each

Then

Click 'Aha' to continue processing

Then

6. Select Denial to attend Therapy session

Then

7. T inputs New_Insights and new feelings

Then

Add inner strength, new feelings, safety, growth

8. Return to Line 4 and Loop until end of therapy

Then

9. Click Control_Continue_Progress

Select inner growth, inner strength, inner child, stronger adult, new feelings, new happiness, new freedom, new insights, new life

Then

Continue to Click Control_Continue_Progress

And

Return to Line 2 if necessary
