Fineshade my home

By Jackie Fineshade from Fineshade.

Still and calm dogs are snoring
Fire is flickering with a flame
Tap is dripping birds are flittering on the branches
The old ash tree is bare and wet with moisture the grey bark glistens
Open trunk with gaps and holes its secrets remain untold
Moisture is in the air droplets sit on the branches
Damp and still but the atmosphere is there
The woods are silent the pigeons clatter from their trees
Thrushes sing their music in the air
Deer stand and watch hind goes off
Stag stands antlers proud to go off into the trees
Leaves wet beneath the feet
With smells lingering in the air
Time to go home but the trees will always be there
Dogs astute in them lives the wild spirit of the woods
Lost to so many amongst all the bustle of 21 century living
Hedgerows decorated in fruits, seeds and berries
The smell of the wood smoke makes Fineshade my home
Jackdaws call and potter on the chimney dancing around the smoke
Sparrows chirp and call in the hedgerow they sit
Blue tits in the gutter feeding on the grubs
Now and then they tap on the metal box
Whilst other birds scatter and feed in the garden
On the natural vegetation
They move in and out and up and down
Searching around for seeds and matter
The woodpecker taps on the tall trees
The dunnock so gentle and smart potters around in the plant pot
The owl hoots at dawn and dusk winter sleeps on
But the wild spirit lives deep in the mist of the woods

It's only a ride so what does it matter
It only holds secrets that remain untold
Let us lay down a track and forget the things that matter
Why worry it鈥檚 not our home so it does not matter
Stone it is harnessed from where
Who cares who makes the decisions?
Their head is full of unwanted matter
Carry on if you must
Access for all is a must
Wilderness is lost in a land full of dust.
Border Terriers in Fineshade
Under the pines we must go
Both borders Bella and Bengi with noses down to the ground
The carpet is thick with needles brown they lay
Twisting this way and the other in amongst the earth
Here we go here we go

Finding their breakfast they eat heartily in the woods

Bengi stops and stares watching waiting listening for the call

Bella is watching looking in the trees
For squirrels she finds

Here we go here we go.

Wandering in the woods deep bare dark and open is the deciduous.
Branches creak and twist in the wind
Back and to back and to sturdy they stand
Bella munches on the calamagrostis
Bengi selects the shoots of dog鈥檚 mercury
So selective is he
Here we go here we go
Wandering through and through
Twigs and leaves crunch
Underfoot sleeping in the dust
We turn and we twist in the mist
Home we go home we go

Bella the border in Fineshade wood
Nose down off we go
Senses alert excitement prevails
Listening looking alert
Twisted trees and scented bark
Cool on the face magic it is
Bella is in the trunk
Holes in the trees produce a need
Investigate I will terrier I am
Give me scent in the trees
Where am I to go?
Mum says home so off I go
I know nose on the ground
Scenting the air mum is pleased
We are home
Yippee!

Rain is falling at Fineshade
We wander through peace and happiness prevail the sadness is gone
Harmony is what we need in a place so full of greed
The woods are disturbed through and through
Out come the spirits to see what they can do
Hazel leaves are green with nuts wanting to form
Squirrels abound running round and round
Blackberries are next to flower
Nature's natural resource to see us through
But what can we do?
April is a month of yellow
May is magical and the flowers are white
To be in touch and true and live life through
Can be explained only if you have been there too.
