Rutland Water

By Jackie Patrick from Fineshade.

Open space children clatter
Bikes whiz by in the wind
Why oh why must they hurry
No time to look at what matters
Cloudy is the sky grey is the water
Waves come and go in a world
That some only do know
Bengi is up and down
Cannot stay calm with all the clatter
The lapwings sit tight by the waters edge
Water trickles down the hill from deep underground
An outlet it finds and fools watercress do grow
Sailing boats glide in the breeze
Out in the open sometimes they go
Rain comes from the sky
There is nothing we can do
It makes us move faster
Feels cool on the face
Back to the car we must go
Sandwiches we eat tea we must drink
From a caf茅 so scruffy and bare
Wind whips up like a tornado
Then all is still and calm
An old boy fishes by the waters edge
With him are his sorrows
Born in a time that mattered
The water begins to move
The cloudiness has disappeared
The fish have moved
He feels the force of nature in his mist
Alone we share a word or two
In a world that doesn't understand
He say鈥檚 the fishing might soon not be there
Taking away his pleasure
But his thoughts like mine are still there
Off we wander back to the car
All it takes is a few minutes to get up and go
For out in the air is where we must be.
