The three people in hot debate are history teacher Jderescu (Teo Corban), loner Piscoci (Mircea Andreescu) and TV presenter Manescu (Ion Sapdaru). Their anecdotes are hilarious and so is Porumboiu's eye for detail. Very highly recommended.

*Film: I For India.
*Date: Tuesday, 16th October 2007.
*Time: 20:00.
*Location: Lings Forum Cinema.

For many kids growing up, their dad getting out the home-movie camera is up there with his earnest disco dancing on the embarrassment scale. For Sandhya Suri, a near 40-year archive of Super 8 footage, shot by her father Yash since his 1965 arrival in the UK from India, provides the backbone for her thought-provoking, intensely moving documentary.

Suri's material also comprised candid audio reels documenting her family's new life in a strange land - Darlington.听"The audio reels contained a lot of the darker, more painful commentaries that my father had recorded," relates Suri, "which gave me a lot of understanding and empathy for my parents' struggle. It's like having a 40-year observational documentary, so I absolutely knew I had to make it into something."

*Film: Handsworth Songs
*Dates: Monday, 29th October 2007.
*Time: 19:30.
*Location: The University of Northampton.

A cinematically fascinating document of 1980s Britain, created by John Akomfrah and the London-based Black Audio Film Collective.

Handsworth Songs

Detailing the decline in race relations paralleling the economic situation of Thatcher's Britain, the documentary portrays the riots that took place in the Handsworth area of Birmingham in 1985, as well as events including the death and funeral of Cynthia Jarrett. Experimental in form, the film utilises a rich mix of archive material and interviews to create a stimulating song-like essay.

*Time: 18:15.
*Location: The University of Northampton.

Zingarina's search takes her deep into the Roma's elemental heart, and then to the brink of madness. It is travelling trader Tchangalo (脺nel, the brooding star of Fatih Akin's German-Turkish drama Head-On) who eventually drags her back, and the pair achieve a strange bond born of their outsider status, and the shared beat of their damaged hearts.
