Bow to the godz of festival fun, for on Monday night they bestowed upon Belfast a wonderful gift. The stage is set, the air cannons are filled with confetti, the front man of the moment, Wayne Coyne is installed within his big inflatable orb - let the show commence... NAME OF ACT: The Flaming Lips TIME ONSTAGE: 9.45pm CROWD REACTION: Somewhere between awe, confusion, enjoyment, bewilderment, excitement, fear - your standard response to the Flaming Lips, but we leave more than happy, having forgotten about the drizzle, that it's not a Friday and we have to go to work in the morning. STAND OUT MOMENT: Just about the whole thing. 听When even setting up the stage (done by orange boiler-suit clad roadies who are as much part of the show as anything else) is entertaining you know something is going to happen. 听Dancers in pink ninja costumes (for the freaky and fumigated ladies of Belfast), Iron Man costumes, giant aliens, the ball in which Wayne rolls into the audience at the start, the psychedelic imagery on the screen, the confetti (more than a WAG's wedding), the charming-the-pants-off-us front-man (茂驴陆we'll come back twice a year, once to play, once to drink!茂驴陆), nose-cam on the mic-stand, the security men on the building site opposite stealing a free look. 听Oh, and there was also some damn fine music as well, but listen to the albums for that, live it's the experience you're there for. BELSONIC RATING: 10- one day all gigs will be like this William Johnston Related Links | ||
