You know how sometimes you don't want to leave the house to go to a gig - you're tired, you can't be bothered, whatever the reason. Well, tonight was a reason why you should get up and go - a small venue, a chilled vibe, and maybe the next big thing. Local support is provided by Driving By Night. Now, these guys have been around a while, and it's rather apt that they have a track called 'Promises' because, they've been promising for a while now without ever really delivering properly. Tonight, however, they're starting to deliver. They seem more relaxed, and at ease, and their brand of Springsteen/Killers starts to make sense. 'Put Me Down' is similarly better than before, while set closer 'I Only Came' seems triumphant rather than defiant as it has been previously. See, lads, smile and the world smiles with you. Ghosts have been quietly getting a bit of a buzz going without really hitting the mainstream. They come from the British guitar pop tradition that has hit good form in the last few years with their sound having nods towards Travis and Coldplay, and even their contemporaries such as The Kooks. That's not to say that they are entirely British, as 'Musical Chairs' is delicate pop in the Arcade Fire mould, while 'Stay The Night' is a cracking stomping track that burrows into your head if you let it. 听 They're aiming for the stadiums, and could get there easily enough, as next single 'The World Is Outside' is, like most of their material, wonderful summery pop with a relaxed vibe that begs for a festival stage. 听Closing with 'Temporary', these relaxed charming guys, all of whom you could probably take home to your mum, promise to be back soon, and, you know what, I'll be glad to see them.
