Paul鈥檚 memories of Warrenpoint in Christmas, 1939, highlight the surreal set of circumstances the Second World War had visited upon this corner of Ireland. While the town had regular blackouts as a precaution against German air raids, nearby Omeath (a mere two miles away) carried on with life as normal as it lay across the border in the Irish Republic which retained a neutral position throughout WWII.
