Anna McCann

"I felt so excited…there was such an atmosphere. It was such an exciting day for all of us."

The story...

On this day Anna waited patiently for her brother’s return. Would they be triumphant? Or would fate see them loose for yet another year?

This song was composed after Derrylaughan won the O’Neill Cup

On the 17th of September from the Washing-bay they came, to play a game of football and make themselves a name.Ìý On that historic Sunday the Carmen they did play, and they took the cup from Carrickmore and brought her to the Bay.

Derrylaughan they had great support they came from near and far, to watch the three McClernans put the ball right o’re the bar.Ìý Carrickmore they played in orange and the Barrys played in green, and it was the greatest final Dungannon ever seen.

Now the two O’Neills they were superb, they proved a real stone wall;Ìý And at mid-field there was no one to touch big Pat at all.Ìý Tommy Donnelly and the twin McCann were just a gallant pair, and they saved the Barrys from defeat many times throughout that hour.

Pat Scullion and the two McGraths we never will forget, how they saved the Barrys honour on that day so very wet.Ìý Meenagh Devlin was a tower of strength and helped them win that game;Ìý Eddie Hanna he was always there to clear her when she came.

There was another member, Charlie Canavan was his name, well he saved the Barrys honour and helped them win that game;Ìý And then there was Joe Donnelly, the goalie true himself, well he also helped to put the cup upon McClernan’s shelf.

Stand up Kevin Barrys, stand up and play the game, and in McClernan’s window the O’Neill cup will remain.Ìý We will talk about these fifteen men for many years to come, and we’ll tell the next generation how the cup it should be won.
