The Promise by
Andrew Bellamy

听
Stretching beneath the climbing frame he scuffed a cloud of dust. He watched it as it swirled and blew away.
From beyond the trees (whose stunted summer shadows could not reach him) the sound of water trickled through the air and leaves. He touched his throat as she spoke in dappled shade.
- If you get to the other side, I promise that I'll kiss you.
From the cool beneath the trees (her sharp nails splitting a grass blade into two. Into four,) she watched him. Her laughter well hid as he struggled on the frame.
At other side he closed his eyes and waited.
-Again , was all she said.
